With a lifetimes experience of wildlife in their natural habitat and 25 years in taxidermy Andy Russell has produced some magnificent pieces of art.
Andy started dabbling in taxidermy as a teenager for a short time, but the need to make a living took him all over the country from the Isle of Wight to the Shetland isles working in various professions. He eventually settled in Kildermorie Estate, Ross-shire, Scotland in 1981 as a Deer Stalker and re-kindled his interest in taxidermy. After mounting a few trophy heads for friends, he was asked to mount some for the estate clients and very quickly built up his hobby into a second job as more and more commissions poured in.
He moved to Achany, Scotland in 2002 and started working for a well-known forestry organisation and built a new workshop/studio and continued to develop his taxidermy business and very quickly expanded his client base.
He has recently moved to Auchintoul Farm House, near Invergordon, Scotland and continues to take commissions to ensure continuity for his many regular and new clients. Normal turnaround time will not be affected by the move to the new premises.
"Andy’s work is beyond attention to detail; what he does is natural, instinctive and encompasses years of experience and knowledge of these native animals in their natural habitat. Each mount has its own personality and presence brought to life by a skilled hand, not just preserving the animal but the memories and the sentiment that accompanies it. "
Andy works with his customers on commissions, rather than producing birds and mammals for sale. All photos on this website are of previous commissions and are not offered for sale.
Andy combines the old traditional method of mounting birds, mammals and fish with modern methods and materials, producing a lifelike mount that is pleasing to the eye. Customer satisfaction is at the top of the list of priorities and he will work closely with his clients to ensure the finished product is what the client wants and that the work is completed within a reasonable timescale.
Andy currently works from Auchintoul Farm House, near Invergordon, Scotland.
